In February, the Clearwater Civil team started work on a remote site associated with Trustpower’s Waipori Hydroelectric Power Scheme to fix a slip affecting a water race feeding into the scheme’s reservoir, Lake Mahinerangi. Staff on the project, which was nearing completion in early May, stayed at a house in Lawrence to be close to the site.

In total, 14,000 cubic metres of soil was excavated from the slip and drainage installed (using benching and compacting).

“It was up on the back of a forestry block on Department of Conservation land,” says project manager Darcy Pine. “It was really remote and the topography was very steep so access was pretty tough and logistically it was hard to get our gear in there.”

As well, the team from Clearwater Civil installed a large concrete box culvert further up the race, as a result of another slip in the area.
