About Us – An Overview
Clearwater Civil Ltd is proud to be 100% local owned and operated. We are based in Dunedin and operate throughout the Otago district.
John Clearwater started his working life on the family farm at Cape Saunders on the Otago Peninsula.
With an eye for opportunity and an innovative approach to problem solving, young John quickly spotted gaps in the local rural services sector. He began by providing hay-making and general contracting services across Dunedin and then across the wider Otago region.
Fast forward 35 years and John and his family expanded the business to become Clearwater Civil Ltd. John has never lost his passion for the farm and his family has continued to work and grow the original farm on the Otago Peninsula along with the contracting operation.
Clearwater Civil Ltd
The current structure was formed in 2012 in response to increased demand from the civil construction sector and local government works throughout Otago.
The total number of staff is now 35 full time employees with shareholding consisting of John and Sharyn Clearwater along with their sons Brad and Gus. All shareholders hold active hands-on roles in the business.
Extensive experience has been gained in the full range of earthworks, civil construction and utility installations. Including:
- Roading
- Drain Laying
- Commissions of storm water, wastewater and water reticulation
- Underground power, gas and telecommunication infrastructure
Clearwaters are proud in their ability to provide comprehensive solutions for their customers. From design, planning and concept all the way through to the finished project.
The Clearwater Value Set
To achieve completion of jobs on spec and on time often requires an innovative approach. John and his family have developed a “can do” culture throughout the whole organisation over the past 35 years to facilitate innovation and growth.
The management structure and communication style is very open in it’s approach. This ensures that everyone is very clear about what is required for each project and ensure customer expectations are met and exceeded.
